Tharoor will make a great leader

M K Bhadrakumar, the distinguished former diplomat, offers an unusual perspective of Shashi Tharoor's ouster from Dr Singh's government.

This is what the country has come to. We root for half-morons like Chidambaram, Pranab and Tharoor because the alternative is Mani Stinker Aiyer, Raoul Ghandi, Ambika Soni etc.

What comrade Badrakumar is true.

Tharoor is one of the dyed in wool pseudo secularist around and would indeed make a great leader.

For now though, 1 sicular politician down. 99 more to go.

Rather than the "comrade's" comment, I very much prefer Non Carborundum's comment. The article has no substance other than some unquantifiable "personal Mallu pride".

And also the fact that Bhadrakumar is a fellow Keralite makes him stand up for Tharoor -- quite like how Rajeev Srinivasan was supporting Tharoor when he first became minister even though their political ideologies are completely different.

Kanchan Gupta on Tharoor

There is something redeeming in Tharoor's irreverance, especially towards Nehru. I don't think he's ideologically p-secular either, but a lot of what he says and writes is anti-Hindu and that matters more than what he possibly thinks.

Is it the same Bhadrakumar who keeps batting for OIC and other assorted sandland dictatorships and laments our foriegn policy is going to dogs because we have let down the PLO cause (whatever that means) and have hithced our wagon to the israel/us train...;) To imagine the first 40 years of IFS had such diplomats only !!

if the ambassador is standing up for Tharoor - perhaps it portends that his supporters stand down?

Tharoor is NOT ideologically p-sec. He is what is called a MACAULAYITE, the breed that lives for the sake of earning pats on the nose from the White man.

Macaulayite is the right word.

Tharoor's a masterpiece. I think he only pretends to be a Macaulayite as you say or a p-sec or whatever else. The problem is that though he might share a world view similar to say, Hitchens, his opportunistic behaviour signals motivations that lie more towards the base of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. There are enough people like him. He is no national treasure.
