Connecticut bishops fight sex abuse bill

What sort of church institutions are involved in child sex abuse? See below.

A bill in Connecticut's legislature that would remove the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse cases has sparked a fervent response from the state's Roman Catholic bishops, who released a letter to parishioners Saturday imploring them to oppose the measure.
...
The proposed change to the law would put "all Church institutions, including your parish, at risk," says the letter, which was signed by Connecticut's three Roman Catholic bishops.
...
The "legislation would undermine the mission of the Catholic Church in Connecticut, threatening our parishes, our schools, and our Catholic Charities," the letter says.

Some years ago, the ISKCON in the USA had several internal problems- they came clean, requested independent people to check their credentials, and re-established their reputation. The Xtain churches, on the other hand, seem completely unaware or unwilling to consider and implement such simple solutions. Why?

I know its OT but no other way to get this off my chest.

On the anniversary (13 April) of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, some thoughts come to mind.
The Brits still blandly state as hard fact that 1650 rifle rounds of .303 calibre were fired into a crowd of 10,000 in a confined place at a range of 100 metres to a max. of 200 metres and ONLY three hundred and odd people died.
I find this figure hard to digest. The Madan Mohan Malviya Committee came up with a figure of 1000 plus as dead but that figure is still largely ignored. Here are my calculations for what they are worth. Of course they are only estimates, but these are based on figures which would be expected in such a scenario.

Rounds fired = 1650.

Of these a minimum figure may be expected to have hit someone in the confined space and virtually point-blank range
Primary Hits = 900. Out of these hits: Killed 400. Injured 500.

Secondary Hits (i.e. the bullet passed through one victim and hit another victim. Not surprising given the powerful nature of the .303 Mk 7 round) = 300. Of these hits are Killed 100. Injured 200 (The bullet has lost some of its energy now).

Tertiary hits (i.e. bullet hit another victim after passing through secondary target) = 80. Out of these hits are Killed 30. Injured 50. (The bullet has lost even more energy by now).

Add casualties in stampede. Killed 600. Injured 1000.

That makes total victims = Killed outright 1,130. Injured 1,750.

Out of these 1,750 injured a sizable number can be expected to have died, given the pathetic state of medical attention (if any) that they could get.
So we add a further 600 to the figure of dead victims. 1,130 + 600 = 1,730 dead.

This figure can be plus or minus 200. That would mean the dead could be anything between 1,530 and 1,930.

(I do hope I got my maths right, since I am awful in the same).

Many of your posters may be computer geeks or nerds. Perhaps one of them could come up with a computerised model of the events? The main facts are as below (1) Crowd of about 10,000 plus. (2) Confined, closed area. (3) 50 troops line up blocking only exit. (4) Firing without warning. (5) Crowd uncomprehending at first. (6) Fromt of crowd slowly realises what is happening and surges back. (7) Those at rear still don't get it and some fall down under rush. (8) Firing is now going on steadily. (9) Panic stricken people rushing about looking for exit. (10) Injured/weak/children falling down and getting trampled. (11) Some people lie down to present smaller target, which Dyer notices and orders the men to shoot those lying on the ground. (12) Some dead and injured get hit again. (13) After a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 minutes Dyer and his men leave the place having fired 1650 rounds. (14) Dyer imposes curfew making it impossible to evacuate casualties.
Addition info: The Bagh was a rough rectangle about 100 x 250 metres. The SMLE rifle .303 mk 7 round can kill a man at 2000 metres. At a range of 100 to 150 m the bullet will easily pass through 2 or 3 people. At least a few of the soldiers seem to have aimed high (there are some bullet holes in the surrounding walls which seem to be about 5 or 6 metres up). Dyer noticed this too and threatened to shoot any man who deliberately missed.

By building a computerised scenario based on these facts I am sure someone can come up with a more realistic figure.

We dishonour the martyrs by accepting and parroting the ridiculous figure of three hundred and something.
