semitic science: Iranian cleric: Promiscuous women cause quakes

apr 20th, 2010

i thought pat robertson had a better explanation for the haiti earthquake: the blacks deserved it. t john, a karnataka minister, thought there was a quake in gujarat because some christist shacks (grandly aka churches) were burned down.

may the good lord save us from these 'scientific' explanations by semites!

Iranian cleric: Promiscuous women cause quakes

BEIRUT: A senior Iranian cleric says women who wear revealing clothing
and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes.

Iran is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, and the
cleric's unusual explanation for why the earth shakes follows a
prediction by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that a quake is certain to
hit Tehran and that many of its 12 million inhabitants should
relocate.

"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray,
corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which
(consequently) increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was
quoted as saying by Iranian media.

not very long ago, you wrote an article saying that tsunamis happen when injustices happen to hinduism... why the double standard, really?

wanderlust, here is what i said:

http://www.rediff.com/news/2004/dec/27rajeev.htm

"I am not the only one who noticed the timing. Indeed, according to the ABC News story quoted above, Christianity's top cleric, the Pope, said 'the enormous tragedy made for a sad Christmas.'

Is something supernatural happening?

I pooh-poohed one T John when he claimed that the Gujarat quake was a sign from above, but now I am beginning to wonder.

The devastation by the tsunami in Tamil Nadu, could it be a caveat from Up There about the atrocities being visited on the Kanchi Acharya? About adharma gaining ground?

There are mysterious forces out there that are not fully understood by our oh-so-rational selves. I am reminded of the strange signs and omens that historians recorded before calamities: for instance the rain of frogs in Vietnam preceding the cataclysmic war. Or the odd celestial signs that preceded the death of Julius Caesar.

It is said that the very elements can be affected by the mystical powers of sages who have acquired superhuman powers through meditation and sadhana. I think we should all tread carefully, for now we are treading on things we do not know."

i did not assert that it was supernatural, i merely wondered. i said, in so many words, that we do not know. this is in the traditional hindu style of questioning and debating.

well, let me note that harkishen singh surjeet, head comrade at the time, did assert that the tsunami was punishment for indians having elected the BJP! a comrade believer?

as somebody said, the problem with the world is that the stupid are sure of themselves, while the intelligent are racked by doubt :-)
