Egypt's Rulers Do a Henry-VIII

Egypt's dictatorship is trying to foist its own pro-regime mullahs onto the country's faithful:

It seems pretty unlikely to work, and on the remote chance it did, you know India's Congress Party would try to copy the idea and come out with pro-Congress "hindutva". I recall that even Al Gore tried to suddenly inject copious references to God in his election contest with Bush in 2000.

Meanwhile, Obama has cut aid to Egypt to apply more pressure for democracy:

Will that potentially push Egypt's rulers to seek alternatives to US support? Could China come in, or Moscow?
