Award of Gold Medal by the Telesio-Galilei Academy of Science (Hungary) to Dr. C.K. Raju (Distinguished Professor & Director - Academic), INMANTEC

jun 6th, 2010

i was more interested in dr raju's work on the kerala school of math and astronomy, and how their manuscripts on the infinite series for trigonometric functions (taylor and maclauren series [sic] which should properly called the madhava and paramesvara series) were taken by jesuits in kerala to the vatican and thence spread to the rest of europe. it is quite likely that newton and liebniz got their ideas about the differential calculus from these extremely important papers. they also led to the revolution in navigation whereby with tables of printed trigonometric functions and a sextant it became possible to navigate the open ocean. this led, of course, to the era of european colonization, alas.
