yet another way obama is revealing his true self: thuggish south-side-chicago racial/victim politics.
i think the cop was justified in arresting gates (i dont agree with shahyrar on that part). gates apparently berated the cop and despite warnings didn't stop. then the cop arrested him.
the cop, crowley, apparently teaches racial sensitivity classes at police academy. i suspect he went by the book, and gates, offended by the history of 'driving while black' etc. over-reacted.
and so did obama. he had no business dissing the police.
how like india's bleeding-heart liberals. as soon as any mohammedan has a problem (eg. shopian, where it turns out the girls were raped and murdered by mohammedan relatives) they immediately assume -- and propagandize -- that hindus were out to kill mohammedans.

WTF? The POTUS has no other pressing work to do? Fire the stupid moronic cop who does not know how to exercise the power he is given when he is allowed to invade people's homes with a firearm! What use is the mf if he cannot use discretion in using his powers to arrest people on trumped up charges? |

I do not think this was a race issue.
More a class issue.
I know that from personal encounters with some white British cops that if your speech betrays your status as an educated person it can rile some individuals.
Crowley, by all accounts, refused to show his ID. And he felt threatened by a diminutive 5'7" person with a dodgy hip who uses a cane to walk with? LOL!
Having personally experienced both cultures - I will say that Southern, "country hick" black folks are much friendlier and genuinely warm when compared to their northern establishment, so-called "liberated" black folk. It has to do with basically being comfortable and proud of who you are (as compared to pretending to be proud but actually being arrogant). Black folk in the Deep South are just genuinely happy and family folk. I even went to a church service in a Black Methodist church and enjoyed it much. They have a short sermon (the pastor was semi-booed off stage) - but a lot of very loud and happy singing. I remember thinking that without knowing it - they have arrived at the Bhakti traditions of Bhajan and Kirtan (happy, unreserved singing the name of the lord)
Compare this to the victim-machine politics of the northern blacks. I have not seriously investigated scholarly work on this – but anecdotally I will say that the whole “black power” and “rage-and-grievance” politics was stoked by white folks in the “liberal” north (especially north-east and Chicago)
There is actually a Hindu parallel here. Not many people realize – but both the Shiv Sena and RSS have a lot of people from so-called backward castes as its members. They take pride in the fact that the great Shivaji was one from their community. Even Namdeo Dhasal of the Dalit Panthers fame has made his peace with Hindutvavadis. Meanwhile the Dalit politics of “rage-and-grievance” is kept alive by the usual communist, secularist brigade.
Ghost writer, good observation on northen and southern African American attitudes.
But making any, I mean -any-comparison between African Americans, who are today in America as a result of kidnapping and slavery, to India's 'Dalits' who were natives of the land for thousands of years is not correct.

@ Shyoda,
you are absolutely correct - Hindu society never enslaved anyone. a lot of the ossification in social organization resulted actually from the islamic invasions.
my point was related to the kind of politics ("rage-and-grievance") and who practices it (our so called "liberals")
