In my caste, this is entirely true.. the caste oriented social networking is the sole reason for such economic sustainance..
These networks enable people, to lend to their relatives with trust, and the borrower also repays in order to protect the relationship which they cannot offer to lose..
Even if there are any payment defers, the lender will not collapse the family, as it is his relative..
In my case, my father had lost more than 3 laksh in lending to my relatives.. but unlike banks he did not press further, as the family would collapse..
Such mutual understanding, adjustment are one of the reasons for economic prosperity..
no wonder, i am working towards establishing that community network, which is losing ground now a days..
Not only economically.. also politically Castes are safe bets.. because when castes become stronger, no matter who comes to power, the caste rule the roost..
now in rajasthan, the jats are going to rule, eventhough BJP is out of power..
But dont know how far they would be able to rein in those missionaries...
But there is another advantage.. when castes become stronger, even the missionaries cannot do anything..
So in all probability, we need to demolish the myth that caste are evil.. i am fighting at various forums on this..
There is one more angle to it.. the myth that upper caste kept dalits out of temples.. its such a myth, that one tends to believe, that the upper caste prevented dalits from all the temples..
If we see, every caste has its own temples, and so as the dalits.. the dalits had their own priest, their own ritual and their own worship.. and for every person, his kula temple is the primary temple and kula god is the primary god..
So there is always alternative for dalits..
BJP should start concentrating on such caste institutions instead of "I am good man" tendencies..
