hh the dalai lama in auroville, pondicherry

jan 16th, 2009

i think he is the most spiritual among the well known religious leaders around. not surprising, considering it is difficult for the greens and whites to be spiritual when they are busy plotting world conquest. but i also think the dalai lama shows how buddhism's pacifism is the wrong approach to semites such as reds, whites and greens. he has not been able to gain an inch from the reds. this is precisely what happened to buddhism when they encountered greens (eg. afghanistan) or whites (eg. south korea). buddhism has been wiped out by reds, greens and whites wherever they chanced upon it.

the tibetan pavilion is a labor of love for claude arpi, who is probably india's foremost expert on tibet and possibly china. he is a frenchman who arrived in india 35 years ago and decided to live in india for good. i have visited the tibetan pavilion a few years ago -- jan 1, 2004 to be precise -- for their kalachakra ceremony. i know it has taken a great deal of hard work for claude to get this built. it is one of the places in which tibetan civilization will survive once it is completely wiped out in tibet by the hans.

INVITATION

Pavilion of Tibetan Culture

Patron: His Holiness the Dalai Lama

His Holiness the Dalai Lama — our Patron — has consented to inaugurate the just-completed Pavilion of Tibetan Culture. A brief function will be held in the morning of January 20, 2009.

In the afternoon, His Holiness will address members of Auroville and friends at a public function behind the Pavilion. The theme of his lecture will be 'Human Unity and Universal Responsibility'.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama first visited Pondicherry and Auroville in 1973. On January 17th, he met the Mother in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. The next day, he visited the barren Auroville site.

Twenty years later, on December 23 and 24, 1993, His Holiness paid his second visit to Auroville to lay the foundation stone of the Pavilion.

This will be his third visit to Auroville.

A Lecture on 'Human Unity and Universal Responsibility'

On December 1989, His Holiness the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This momentous event brought about a new direction in his life. In his Nobel Acceptance Speech, the new laureate made clear that humanity was central to his preoccupations: "No matter what part of the world we come from, we are all basically the same human beings. We all seek happiness and try to avoid suffering. We have the same basic human needs and concerns. All of us human beings want freedom and the right to determine our own destiny as individuals and as peoples. That is human nature."

During the following years his concept of 'universal responsibility' developed and became the core of his political thought. He has repeated time and again that this is his first commitment in this life (his two others commitments are, in this order: inter-religious dialogue and the cause of Tibet).

During the past years, wherever His Holiness goes, he lectures about ethics being the only way to save the planet from self-destruction. This applies not only to the fields of environment, business, administration or education, but to all fields of life. For him ethics or human values mean that 'humanity' should be at the center of our thoughts. This is what he calls 'universal responsibility'.

Venue: The Pavilion of Tibetan Culture (near Visitor's Center) at 2:30 pm. For security reasons, public, guests, press/media persons will have to be seated by 2 pm).

Bags, cell phones and cameras will not be allowed inside the enclosure.

Thank you for your cooperation
