With all due respect to the Mahatma, one thing that strikes me about Mahatma M K Gandhi is that, during Partition, he asked Hindus to allow muslims to slaughter them. Similarly, he asked Jews to let the leader of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (also called Nazi party.. note the words Socialist and Workers) to let him kill them. Just how can anyone even think of doing that? And what for? Was he holding Hindus and Jews guilty of something? Does it not go against the ideals of liberalism and democracy that the a leader of such a high stature asked for the end of millions of lives of Hindus and Jews (indirectly though) ? Do these two-paisa pseudo-intellectual dhimmis today even really understand words like liberalism and democracy which they keep uttering every other sentence? What kind of a liberal, just and secular state is this that asks a section of its citizens to commit suicide, based on their religion ?
Why Hindus? Why not ask muslims to do the same? Was it a tacit admission of the fact that muslims hate Hindus and will stop at nothing to wipe them out?
Did he do so because he was insulated and secured from such slaughter behind a wall of security? Did he really not value the lives of the people who died? In an indirect way, did he not say that - Ok, I dont care if muslims kill you. Is it okay for someone feeling suicidal to decide the life and fate of others? Gandhijee might not be suicidal, but sure he would not have hesitated to sacrifice his life for the sake of the country. But is it OK to sacrifice someone else's life? Was respected Gandhijee a democratically elected leader, to have the right to decide that I must die ? (Though I don't think that elected leaders have that right, legal or moral)
He sure sacrificed a lot for the nation, but to what effect? With what consequences? Should I respect his sacrifices, without taking into account the repercussions. Did any of the others make any less sacrifices (note: Nehru not included in these others) ?
He probably thought that one day, the killers would be filled with kindness and stop killing Hindus. Maybe, Gandhijee had good intentions behind this logic (though I find it perverted). Unfortunately, this logic does not work in real life - especially against a bunch of people who believe in killing you because you dont follow their religion. Most importantly, what about the innocent unfortunate who die till the murderers are filled with kindness??
The Jews did not heed Gandhijee's advice. They survived under much more trying conditions (or atleast have a higher probability of surviving). We are dying.
Oh alright, forget it, I am getting another national holiday. And a dry day - I cannot even drown my thoughts. Another example of this liberal and democratic country that decides when should the citizen be allowed to drink and smoke !!
