I also doubt whether alchemy can be included in their "achievements". As far as I know, alchemy has been part of "Siddha vaidyam" and its progenitor Ayurveda from virtually prehistoric times. I wish someone more familiar with the history of ayurveda (and Siddha vaidyam) would add a comment. Alchemy was the crude beginnings of chemistry, though it has become obsolete and fallen into utter disrepute in modern times.
