i think the woman has a bunch of problems, including a persecution complex.
while it is true that men leer and stare in india, the chances of a woman being attacked are much lower than in the US. (yes despite the case of poor jyoti singh pandey and many others). if i am not mistaken, something like 30% of US college women complain to date rapes.
an acquaintance of mine, a young woman student of indian origin and american-born, called me once, very shaken -- she lived in harlem in new york city in university housing. she had been accosted in the stairwell of her own building by a man who wanted to rape her at knifepoint. she only escaped by telling him that she was having her periods.
violence against women happens everywhere (although i don't by any means condone it or trivialize it). to make it sound like india is particularly and uniquely bad at that is sheer exaggeration.
this women -- yes, she may be traumatized -- is, still wrong to make such broad generalizations.

HI Rajeev,
Came across this tripe on CNN which was extensively discussed in Hacker News. I have no clue about what she means by "India being too dangerous for women". I guess this idiot just has to go the New York City where rapes happens every few minutes.
Nevertheless, this issue, despite denial, rebuttal and full of lies is unlikely to be challenged.
