NYT reports on the latest bold new move in online education - Georgia Tech will be offering the chance to do a Master's Degree in Computer Science online, at much less cost compared to the traditional route:

At a cost of $6600 compared to $45,000 by the traditional route, the online degree offering is attracting a lot of attention. Naturally, there'll be less opportunity to interact with faculty, but this is still quite a bold new experiment which could influence change in others if successful.

This is indeed groundbreaking stuff. Already one sees the trend in certifications like CFA. It really is time to shatter these elite cliques run in the name of universities and I see no reason why it cannot be done for courses that do not need lab work.
