indian economic activity shifts offshore: the economist. thanks, upa!

in passing, note the bit about much of india's container traffic going to colombo's new chinese-built container terminal. there is a perfectly fine port, vizhinjam, with a draft of 72 feet, which has been delayed for 40 years. why? because the RoL in kerala don't want vizhinjam to eat into their lucrative dredging business in vallarpadam, kochi (note that kochi is the most RoL-dominated town in the country). they have ensured that vizhinjam will never take off.
