Interesting indeed - another interesting question would be how Jinnah travelled from being the defense counsel for Balgangadhar Tilak to being the one who drove Advani out of Sindh. All folks who put the blame on Jinnah for the partition look at his career from approx 1935-1947 - and rightly so. In that later phase of his life the man was truly evil and without qualms.
The more I read about the partition - the more I feel that it was acquired - to use a phrase - in a fit of absence of mind. This is not to deny inherent separatism in Islam, or the desirability of partition (for the Hindus it has been excellent). However, there was nothing inevitable about it. Human agency was involved - and a lot of that agency was that of Nehru (mostly) and Patel (somewhat).
I have read soewhere that Rajaji had also endorsed and supported partition. He wanted to separate the generally docile Hindus from the Islamic barbarians.
Partition was a good thing for the Hindus. The only problem was the Muslims got to stay back in Bharat while they got their homelannd also. And that is solely due to Nehru.
