PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA, March 6, 2009: Malaysia's oldest Ganesha temple, the Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple in Petaling Jaya, faces a possible takeover by the Insolvency Department following a long-standing row among the administrators. This would be the first time a religious institution in Malaysia is subjected to such a disgrace.

The Registrar of Societies, Datuk Md Alias Kalil, issued a showcause letter dated March 3 asking the temple's management committee to explain why it should not be deregistered. The committee has until April 3 to respond.

The Hindu community is indignant that the management committee, comprising professionals, has been unable to run the affairs of the temple. They speculate that the problems arose from infighting and a power struggle. The registrar's intervention had been sought by ex-committee members and a group of elected office bearers who resigned en bloc in September 2008.

I am really worried about this infighting, not just here, everywhere we go. For everything, like building temples on their own, because, they want to be seen as the ones in command.
Why is that? Is there any psychological review of us as Indians, who cannot accept someone as the leader, and rally behind them, to show the strength of unity.
Is that because, our ego is big? I am really worried that Hindus, which could be a big economic and entrepreneurial power base in the US, will not go places, where we can dictate terms, define policies etc, mainly because of this infighting. Tami/Telugu/Marathi/Kannada.....associations, driving their own agendas all the time, confusing everyone they interact with. At this time of US crisis, I think we can play a big role, if at all we can be together, show our strengths, our charitable attitudes etc. We can gain big, if we start helping others in anyways possible.
How do we do it? Our biggest strength technology, may be we should encourage our associations to conduct free classes. That would be a start to become part of the mainstream.
