one more marxists speciality: famine in the land of plenty

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/16/world/europe/16kiev.html?hp

Ukraine was without doubt the bread basket of europe before the 'glorious leaders' of the proliteriat took over. if you see the arable land map of the world - ukraine stands out - along with india. incidentally - i have a lot ofukrainian friends. they are all unanimous in hating the soviet russians.

this collectivised agriculture was an utter disaster - the same thing happened in china too; with the 'great leap forward' - which actually turned out to be a monkey leaping backward. this is one more marxist speciality - famine in the land of plenty. it goes with the rest of the marxists menu - mass murder, labor camps and torture

i read this an marvel at how india escaped this fate. how come nehruvian-stalinists never got this far with 'progressive' policies in agriculture? i think the conservative wing of the congress must have blocked it. who were these people that must have taken on comrade jawahar stalin at his prime - specially after sardar patel's passing? a history of these heroes is yet to be written
