The ISI first flourished when it became the major conduit for funds and arms to the Mujahideen against the Soviets. It now has some 10,000 regular employees on its payroll. Washington will not jettison this equation because of a terrorist attack in Mumbai. Somehow the US seems to think that it can run a three-legged race (with Paki as partner) faster than a normal one.
I think Mr Akbar is too polite to mention that India is considered a useful idiot and nothing else..
Part of one of MJ AKbar's columns on the Gaza war is translated and published in todays Mathrubhumi (malayalam daily). But it is credited to MP Veerendrakumar. There has been accusations of others writing for MPV before. I wonder whether MJ Akbar knows about it.
