Interesting analysis by Friedman himself - the importance of the outer regions for China is essential. What is also essential is to divert waters from Tibet to the Han hinterland in the next five years or so- else the billions starve. nice to note that the tension between the pacific rim and the hinterland in China is cyclic and inevitable; generating domestic demand is harder for the Chinese than it is for Indians - I think if this recession is prolonged enough you might see the "rubber dogshit" factory workers spill out onto the streets
