also, a lot of the historical treaties signed by the limeys for madras presidency were extortionate and one-sided. they browbeat the poor native states like mysore and travancore. to now say that these treaties are fair is not logical, but that's what the courts are doing.
just look at the damage the dmk is doing just because they are a) seriously anti-hindu, b) holding the UPA by the short and curlies because of the number of MPs they have, c) occupying a number of ministerial portfolios:
1. the kaveri issue where other riparian states are being treated unfairly to supply tamil nadu
2. the mullaperiyar issue, ditto
3. the creation of a railway division in salem by taking away parts of palakkad division in kerala. tamil central minister's explanation: "how can a part of tamil nadu be under the control of kerala?" doesn't this sound much like "how can mohammedans live under non-mohammedans?". it's okay that the entire kerala railway system is under the chennai zone, of course
4. the destruction of rama's bridge (btw, why do we tolerate calling it adam's bridge, just like we tolerate the 'allah bund' in gujarat -- why isn't that 'bhagwan bund'?)
5. the killing off of the vizhinjam port project so that tamils can push forward colachel and tuticorin
6. the evr statue issue in which they damaged and desecrated a large number of hindu places of worship, but they suck up to all mohammedan and christist bigots
and so on and so forth.

Sethusamudram project has been put on fast track, with little concern for detailed impact analyses on lives of coastal people and the imperative of continuous dredging operations to operate the channel.
The most devastating comment on the project comes from Dr. Tad S. Murthy: "I like this (Sethusamudram) project', he said, 'but there is a flaw. The entrance to the channel should be re-oriented towards the eastern side. Otherwise, there is a chance that it may create a deepwater route for another devastating tsunami. Dr. Murthy is chief editor of the reputed International Tsunami Journal "Science of Tsunami Hazards" for over two decades.
Let me explain why the warning should be taken seriously.
During the last tsunami, the Ramar Bridge (at a high elevation) from the rest of the shoal accumulations acted as a natural barrier preventing the direct devastation of the entire Bharatam coastline south and southwest of Nagapattinam.

This shows the spread of the massive displacement of waters displaced by the plate tectonic event at Aceh. The spread was dosn the southern Tamilnadu coastline, circled the entire Srilanka island and moved partially into Kerala and towards the Ramar bridge. This circling around Srilanka occurred because the Ramar bridge acted as a natural shoal barrier preventing the inflow of waters.
If a Sethusamudram channel is dug through the bridge, it will act as the channel for the waters to flow directly into the entire southern bharatam coastline beyond Dhanushkodi and into the coastline of Kerala right into the Konkan region. The devastation of such direct onrush of tsunami waters will be incalculable.
There are clear indications that the environmental clearance was done without taking into account fundamental engineering and cost-benefit factors:
1. Effect of a tsunami-type of event on the project (all scientists are unanimous that a recurrence of tsunami's cannot be ruled out).
2. Locations for dumping the dredged sand.
3. Costs of continuous dredging given the continuous sea currents which tend to create the shoals and again rebuild the Ramar bridge making the project inoperatble for most of the time.
4. The types of naval craft which can navigate through the project channel (Apparently, the heavy oil tankers cannot go through this channel given the limited draft and will continue to circumnavigate around Srilanka and through Straits of Malacca to reach the markets of Southeast and East Asia.) There has been no market study of the numbers and types of vessels which will navigate through the channel and the freight rates expected to be paid by these vessel for being tugged through the channel.

In the interests of safety of the lives of the coastal people, it is prudent to stop the project work until the fundamental factors are re-studied and re-evaluated. It is also essential to involve NIOT and create a Marine Archaeological Unit to study the archaeology of the Ramar Bridge and Kizhakkarai (Tiruchendur) where a s'ankha industry flourishes. It will be a tragedy of incalculable proportiont to the cultural traditions of Bharatam, if this industry were to be devastated by the project. It will be prudent to study the impact of the project on the cultural aspirations of the people and industries such as the ones which support livelihood of s'ankha divers. Impact on fisheries and future projects for desalination of seawater to provide drinking water to coastal towns should also be evaluated. The possibility of choosing an alternative route for the channel with little impact on the Ramar bridge should also be re-studied, taking into account the satellite image analyses which show that the secular historical trend of incursions and recessions of seawaters from almost the entire Bharatam coastline from Dwaraka through Gulf of Khambat, through Gulf of Mannar upto Ganga Sagar (West Bengal) -- caused by a number of factors not excluding plate tectonics and global warming cycles. The received narratives of the submergence of Kumarikandam should be a pointer to the imperative of careful studies before embarking on projects which hurt the cultural sentiments of the people who are inheritors of a glorious sea-faring, maritime, riverine civilization continuum.

The poor people of Tamil Nadu continue to suffer under the goonda raj that has been unleashed by the Dravidian parties over the last 4 decades. Both the DMK and AIADMK and other parties with acronyms that are any combinations of the letters A, D, M , K have destroyed the state. They are antithesis to the real (hoary, ancient and incredibly rich) culture of the state. Many of the misgivings ingrained across the people in our country about the state, its people and its culture are due to near 40 years of tyrannical rule they have provided. The Dravidian parties are united in their lack of any semblance of principles excepting hypocricy. The national parties espescially Congress are equally to blame for their inability to unseat these demons from power in TN inspite of so many opportunities. Our country suffers because of these parties.

I always get weary when you post a link to a site called futurepundit. Given the Punditji's we Indians have had in the past - I am not sure that I put any stock into the punditry anymore.
"37 percent of methane, and 65 percent of nitrous oxide" from cow-fart. Any studies that have been quoted to prove these claims - by which I mean scientific studies as opposed to futurepundit crystal-ball gazing.
In any case, let me assure you that it is the west that rears the cows for meat that breeds and owns more cows than required. As Indians do not eat beef (well the Hindu Indians anyway), there is not a purposive breeding - demographic siege of cattle in India.
Overall we can trust in nature - if the cow was too ozone-unfriendly I am convinced that nature would have found a way to deal with it. Since it has not - rest assured that it is fine.
I will reiterate - cows are not as bad as chemical belching factories that you seem to be so fond of
Assume that Ram built the bridge, where is it now ? Can anyone walk on the bridge ? It is already destroyed and under water.
What is this project destroying then ? Are you upset that the project is destroying a bridge that is already destroyed !!
