what, a death-bed conversion?
the former editor of the archa-atlanticist 'economist' magazine says something that must make his fellow-limey ass-kissers of china blanch, or at least have their stiff upper lips tremble a teeny-weeny bit. he acknowledges that india has legitimate concerns about china, and that bush has scored a coup by bullying india into the nuclear corner.
must be that leaving the economist has allowed him to take his head out of you-know-where.

Well actually the lesson from this article is one of buyer power.
The Bush regime (Yankees like to call it administration - but come on guys - it is a regime) had no foreign policy success, were left holding a big tar baby in Iraq - so if at all India needed to negotiate - here was a great chance of negotiating from strength.
We should have emasculated American requirements for inspection (i.e. cap, roll-back and eliminate) and should have played Team Dubya - but sadly Shyam Saran and Sonia-Sewak Singh dont have the gumption to pull that off
