Pavan on Tablaand Sri Vivek Datar on HarmoniumApril 13th 20138:00pm - 10:00pmatCampbell Recital Hall, Braun Music Center471 Lagunita Dr, Stanford, CA (map)Dr. Pooja Goswami Pavan is a Minneapolis, MN based performer, composer, teacher and scholar of Hindustani (North Indian classical) music. She was born in a musical family and received her early training in Hindustani classical vocal music from her father Sri. Surendra Goswami. Currently she receives training in Khayal from her elder brother Dr. Shailendra Goswami. Pooja received a Ph.D. in Music from the University of Delhi in 2005 for her thesis on the life and music of Pandit Amarnath, who was one of the prime disciples of the iconic Ustad Amir Khan. Pooja is also trained in semi-classical music by the eminent vocalist Vidushi Shanti Hiranand, the reigning queen of Thumri and Ghazal and the universally acclaimed successor of the legendary vocalist, the Late Begum Akhtar.

660 Lomita Drive, Stanford, CA 94305 (map)Pandit Nayan Ghosh is regarded as one the greatest living performers of the Sitar, one of the world's most profound and virtuosic instrumental traditions. His fluid tone, depth of feeling, and vast repertoire have made him one of the world's leading sitarists. Pandit Nayan Ghosh's unparalleled musical talent has allowed him to become not only a renowned sitar player but also one of India's top-ranking tabla players, a nearly unprecedented feat in Indian classical music. Pandit Nayan Ghosh was trained by his father, the legendary Padmabhushan Nikhil Ghosh. In addition to his father, Pandit Nayan Ghosh has accompanied and received inspiration from many of the all-time greats, such as his uncle Pandit Pannalal Ghosh, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Ustad Vilayat Khan and Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta. He will be accompanied on the tabla by the prodigy Ishaan Gupta, who is the son and disciple of Pandit Nayan Ghosh.
