remitha satheesh on the mystique of the sari

you go, girl! more power to you!

it is heart-rending for connoisseurs of that great spectator-sport, woman-watching, that stunning indian women choose to hide their charms under that awful salwar-kameez thing. in truth, that is the national costume of fat old pakistani punjabi females, and makes even the most attractive young thing look like... a fat old pakistani punjabi.

a tragedy, i tell you.

i mean, it is unfathomable that women spend enormous time and effort to look good, and  then throw it all away by wearing a salwar kameez. especially in the south, where they wear ugly polyester off-the-rack numbers that make them look scarecrows wearing potato sacks. this, for instance, by shapely tamil women who actually look like chola bronzes and by buxom malayali women whose tight two-piece sari, the mundum neriyathum, highlights their figures like nothing else.

sigh. a fella could just cry.

and oh, the worst part is those bloody 'shawls'. i feel like throttling said scarecrows with the shawls. i am tempted to wish them the fate of isadora duncan, whose long scarf got caught in the wheel of a motorbike and strangled her.

random thoughts just like that
fly by me just like that
i try to pin them with a pen
but most often they elude me
like a waking dream's jewelled mists
unravelling strands in the morning sun...
