If the news is a true reflection of what the public needs, then it's truly hit the pit bottom in terms of content. Be it the mainstream press (the "pseudo-secular flotsam) or the news channels pandering to "pseudo-intellectuals" in terms of "alt-media" we are hopeless.
The fact is that for majority of populace, printed word is gospel truth. Be it editorials who still wield enormous influence to shape up public opinion or "paid news" (coming in without disclaimers) the phenomenon was always there. It's just that with Radia tapes, it became public.
The life weathers on nevertheless. Radia has gone off the radar, 2G scamsters have been granted bail (court appearances can be arranged), Lokpal bill has been pushed to sidelines, Black Money issue pushed to back burner with the formation of a "fact finding mission" and diversionary tactics in terms of FDI retail.
Interestingly, there was no news of the North East blockade recently in mainstream news which otherwise doesn't tire of airing the numerous cricket matches (which are fixed anyway).
That's what it is all about. Escapist cinema, endless cricket fixtures, ad and TRP driven "news". An endless circus to deflect the attention from looming disastrous fiscal deficit, undervalued ruppee and rampaging inflation.
