of course it has. the moment white people started ruling here, it became a banana republic. actually it did the moment the white-approval-seeking First Prime Minister of Indian (TM) started ruling. so on aug 15, 1947, it became a banana republic.
not that europeans are models of rectitude or anything, nor is it the case that this mohan being embarrassed is a big deal, but the fact is that india *is* a banana republic. there is little difference between the kim-il sung dynasty and the nehru dynasty.

Europeans perceive India to be at one of those junctures where tripping over the precipice cannot be ruled out.

Huh,
The Euro-peons better look at their own soon to be third world countries first. Mounting deficits, an aging population and massive unfunded pension liabilities will make Greece look like the Woodstock festival. Actually it is Europe that is at the tipping point and the "can have the pension nots" will hit the streets soon.
Agreed EuroLand has all the problems you listed above.
BUT, which of these problems is not in India ? India's debt to gdp ratio is WORST among BRIC nations at nearly 80%. That is worse than Ireland, where government has implemented brutal cuts to bring economy out of debt quicksand. Can we expect something like this in India ?
Add the soul destroying (Sorry Krisha) corruption which forces anyone seeking an honest life out of country, and you have makings of a bad nation, which, if theory of evolution is right, is bound to be attacked and/or enslaved deprived of life supporting wealth.
Congrats for electing/selecting manmorons into power.
