yeah, right.
in keeping with obama's cleverness, this is probably the equivalent of "damning with faint praise". the fact that he mentions hindus means nothing more than that his speechwriters want money from hindus in the us. as a long-term fundamentalist christist (remember the ranting rev. wright?) and born and raised as a mohammedan, it is highly unlikely that obama has any great sympathy for hindus.

Please note: Jews constitute only 1.7 percent of the US population, but they are very influential, and mostly highly respectable people. Because most of them are brain workers, not manual labourers. The "Hindus" would be almost 100 per cent of Indian ethnicity, and I just wonder whether they would outnumber the Jews. Anyhow, "Hindus" in US would also be brain workers.
Anyhow, Obama's statement points to a slight improvement over the perception of Bush's administration of Hew Hess Hay as a "Christian Nation":
“The Pledge of Allegiance containing the phrase "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all," violates the separation of church and state."
The motto on US currency, “In God we trust”, is in the same category.
