1,000-yr-old inscriptions damaged in restoration

may 7th, 2008

it's hindu history, so why not destroy it?

let us not forget that raja raja chola has been ignored by most historians of india anyway, along with the vijayanagar empire.

which is quite amazing, considering that vijayanagara was the greatest city in the world at its peak -- you have to see hampi's ruins to believe it. it was about 500 sq. km in size! and it was incredibly rich.

and raja raja chola's invasion of sumata's srivijaya empire caused him to put together the greatest fleet in history up until the industrial revolution. and he gives the lie to the solemn platitude: "indians have never invaded any other country". yes, raja raja chola did. and so what the heck is wrong with that? we were never pacifists, only we bought orderly and rational wars with rules (unlike the barbarians who fought like, well... barbarians).

in raja raja chola's time, clearly india was at one of its periodic peaks: the gupta empire was of recent memory in the north, and the cholas were rampant in the south.

which is all the more reason to lament that the people who inherited this great classical civilization, at least the ruling 'dravidians' in tamil nadu, are such brainless, uncouth barbarians.

Technically, it was his son, Rajendra Chola, who invaded Srivijaya. But R2C did invade Sri Lanka, which, I suppose, can be considered "any other country".
