Dear Friend,

Greetings from the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai.

We are pleased to inform you that The East-West Center in Hawaii  is accepting applications for the 2013 New Generation Seminar (NGS) on "Social and Economic Transformation in Asia Pacific" http://www.eastwestcenter.org/scholarships-fellowships/2013-new-generation-seminar. (Application Deadline: July 19, 2013)

BACKGROUND ABOUT THE EAST-WEST CENTER:  The East-West Center, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, promotes better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, research, and dialogue. Established by the U.S. Congress in 1960, the Center serves as a resource for information and analysis on critical issues of common concern, bringing people together to exchange views, build expertise, and develop policy options. The Center is an independent, public, nonprofit organization with funding from the U.S. government, and additional support provided by private agencies, individuals, foundations, corporations, and governments in the region.

With over fifty years of serving as a U.S.-based institution for public diplomacy in the Asia Pacific region with international governance, staffing, students, and participants, the East-West Center has built a worldwide network of 57,000 alumni and more than 750 partner organizations.

ABOUT THE NEW GENERATION SEMINAR (NGS):  The NGS is a two-week education, dialogue and travel program to build friendships and promote understanding of regional issues among the rising generation of leaders in the United States and Asia Pacific. Participants typically range in age from their mid-20's to late 30's. It is a unique intensive experience of multinational exchange on the important issues facing the region's young leaders. The first week is spent at the East-West Center in Honolulu focusing on broad regional issues in areas such as economy, security, environment, and energy,  and the second week involves travel focused on a special theme. This year's program will be held from September 30-October 13 on the theme "Social and Economic Transformation in Asia Pacific."

The young leaders and policymakers in this year's program will have an opportunity to explore the social changes that have taken place due to rapid economic development, modernization and globalization, and the implications for policymakers in most complex areas of public policy such as education, social security and pension systems, health care, and even innovation.
