The number of slums in Gujarat has reduced by 5,579 (1.52%) over the last decade, according to 2011 census data. On the contrary, the 13 major states of the country – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, UP, MP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, J&K, Odisha and Tamil Nadu – have witnessed marginal to manifold increase in the shanties of their urban areas.
