former afghan spy chief warns of civil war: frontline, pbs. [northern alliance vs. taliban, yet again]

may 6th, 2012 C

amrullah saleh is an impressive man, but he's a tajik (possibly a panjshiri, one of the followers of the great ahmed shah massoud, the assassinated military genius and commander of the northern alliance). those of the northern alliance know whereof they speak -- that the taliban are a creation of the ISI, and that there is no love lost between the pashtuns (karzai is one) and the tajik, uzbek, hazara and other minorities.

india has for a long time been on good terms with the northern alliance. massoud in fact studied in india (and unlike many others who did -- eg. the fijian coup leader -- did not hate india). there is no reason to believe the taliban (aka ISI) will ever be trustworthy as far as india is concerned.

Better to let Afghanistan split into its natural ethnic components anyway. Then each ethnic group can reunify with its parent state - Tajiks with Tajikistan, Uzbeks with Uzbekistan, Pashtuns with Pashtunistan. Goodness knows that Pakistan won't be able to swallow the Pashtuns whole, so let Pashtun ethnic consolidation break Pakistan apart, while also helping the liberation of Balochistan.
