NAVIC to Provide Guidance from Above

With ISRO having launched the IRNSS-1G satellite on Friday, the 7th in the constellation, it has now completely put into place an Indian version of GPS for the local region. This will enable all kinds of mobile devices, whether consumer-level personal devices or military systems, to use the geo-spatial navigation data provided by the signals picked up from the constellation of IRNSS satellites, now known as NAVIC:

NAVIC (NAVigation by Indian Constellation) is also a soundalike for the Sanskrit word 'Navika' (नाविक), which means sailor or navigator. The opportunities and benefits from exploiting this particularly Made-for-India technology could generate a lot of activity for India's software industry among others.
