Thanks for your article. A happy outcome all round, a fairytale ending almost. Like many Wall-Street executives, Penguin executives settled “of their own free will”, when they saw that the Court would find them guilty; in this case for criminal smut-peddling and hate incitement. Who cares that the book is also garbage as far as facts or scholarship? Doniger gets more dollars as Amazon buyers realize that her book is sheer porn, and the "history" title is just so they can keep it in the living room. And U. Chicago, once home to the Manhattan Project gets more fees, peddling smut as history and religion classes. Win-win.
This is the latest: Besides the Indian courts that you mentioned, two California courts (State and Federal) also came to the same conclusion about the content of "texbooks" authored by these "Indologist" experts, purporting to be about religion.
