i fail to see the great excitement behind the question: does kayani love gilani/zardari, or doesn't he?
what the hell difference does it make?
the very fact that it is an announced coup, as it were, makes it a contradiction in terms, doesn't it? a coup is supposed to be a surprise! that's the whole damned point of a coup!
therefore, the only conclusion to be drawn is that this is diplomatic theater, and it doesn't make a whit of difference. no wonder the scum media -- which loves dictators, especially pakistan dictators -- is experiencing a frisson of almost pre-orgasmic proportions.
choice A:
gilani, zardari et al run a 'democratic' government. army is the real power
choice B:
kayani takes over. army is the real power
choice C
another mask is elevated to 'democratic' power (say the freshly re-invented cricket player imran khan, who let us remember, practically lost his deposit in the last 'democratic' election. his current visibility is a creation of ISPR, i suspect.). another candidate is the freshly re-habilitated musharraf (wait, just because he's hung up his khakhis, he's a 'democrat'?). army is the real power
the operative part of all these scenarios is, you got it, "army is the real power".
in pakistan's interesting vocabulary, 'democracy' == 'army has a fig-leaf, plausible deniability and power without responsibility'. that's it.
otherwise, pakistan's 'democracy' is a kakistocracy, just like others we could name.
