*Militancy in India's Northeast*
/Drafted By:/ Dr. Bibhu Prasad Routray
http://www.pinr.com
India's northeast is a geopolitically strategic region. It comprises
eight states -- Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura,
Mizoram, Meghalaya and Sikkim -- and is spread over a 262,179 square
kilometer (101,201 square miles) area. The eight states contain a total
population of 39 million. India's northeast connects with five countries
-- Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, China and Nepal -- by a 4,500 kilometer
(2,796 miles) international border; the region, however, connects to
India only through a narrow and tenuous land corridor measuring merely
22 kilometers (14 miles).
A fact that further jeopardizes mainland India's links with the region
is the thriving militancy in most of the northeast states. The demands
of the different militant groups range from autonomy within the
provisions of the Indian constitution to outright secession. Such
militant movements started early with India's independence in 1947. At
one point, more than 120 militant groups operated in India's northeast.
In recent years, the Indian government has had some success in achieving
stability in the region, using tactics from negotiations to military
operations to root out militants. Nevertheless, the region remains a
potential tinderbox.

i found in the above article:
"Speaking against the controversial film, Father Donald D’Souza of the Catholics Bishop’s Council said, “In a country where people are still learning about Christianity, such films can be quite harmful. We don’t want people to imbibe a wrong view of this religion in India.”
so i'd like to say:
Dear Father D'Souza & dear Christians,
Arent you aware of all the rotten
things Christians say about Hindu
religion, and that too IN India ?
You dont want to anyone to imbibe
"wrong" views of X-ianty, in India,
where X-ianty is an invasionary,
proselytising religion.
But you people are ever ready to
say lousy things about Hindu
religion, the original religion of
this land, which you can never hope
to comprehend with your totally
brain-washed minds.
I hope Father D'Souza, you can
understand how deeply hurt Hindus
are by all the negative propaganda the church is ever ready to do, about Hinduism.
I hope it will stop, otherwise you
all only deserve more and more Da Vinci Codes.

i think the govt has claimed the zenith of minority appeasement by deciding to stay the movie's release 'coz of protests. when did we start worrying if somethings are hurting X'ians or Muslims. the last time i checked this place was india. when did india become europe or arabia?
Another major event which caught my attention is the self-claimed saviour of dravidians Karunanidhi's new law to allow non-brahmins to be preists at major temples. I expected this anyway (but not so soon after he won the elections) as he is a well known brahmin-hater. Iam not against allowing others to be preists, as nowhere in the scriptures it is said that only certain people can be preists. No one is born a brahmin. One becomes a brahmin only by seeking knowledge of everything worldly and divine.
But that doesnt mean one goes on a rampage againt brahmins. As someone said the brahmins in TN are the most prosecuted, even though they are the brightest and the most law abiding citizens. It is because of this persecution that most of them have left the state and settled in the metros outside and many more in the US.
Karunanidhi is moron who does not know anything else other than brahmin bashing. His brain is a single lane one-way street.
And for all his anti-brahminism
and pro-Tamilism, there is NOTHING
Tamil in his name, or the names of
so many of these "Dravidians" (as
they call themselves).
for example:
"Karunanidhi" = Karuna + Nidhi
Both these are authentic Sanskrit
words, we are so familiar with
them.
_
To "hindu" : I think the law should be brought in every state. I just do not gettit why Hindu organisations are not pressing for it- thereby continuing to be labelled "brahminical", and allowing opportunists like karunanidhi to snatch away such issues and stake credit for that
And that too after claiming to have done all the hardwork training non-Brahmim priests
http://www.hindunet.org/srh_home/1997_5/0052.html
Bad PR as usual : "Hum Sirf Kaam Karthe rahenge, seva karya ki publicity karna mana hei" . yeah, enjoy.
Yeah, in theory "brahmin" was never supposed to by birth.("chaaturvarnyam... gunakarma vibhagasha"). But chanting that a 100 times doesn't help. You have to come up with street smart ideas to implement it.. AND TO PUBLICISE IT
Re:
Parthasarathy:
"People like Daisies are doing a further disservice by calling Christians as stupids. A person who holds the Vedas and the accepted holy texts of India in high esteem will never belittle another person, even if said person continually attacks you."
--- Hinduism is a way of life, I
agree with you, and that icludes
the religion part.
There is nothing wrong with
calling people stupid if they are
saying bad things about us. Have
you been following the nasty things
the proselytisers say ? Some of it
was posted on thsi blog too.
Stupid is such a mild criticism. Even Sankaracharya has
said "BhajaGovindam Moodhamathe"
"O Fool, meditate on God". He
was saying that to those who are
not God-minded.
I dont go around calling people
stupid needlessly. X-ians are the
ones who hold that nothing other
than their path takes one to God,
and they say NASTY things about Ram
and Krishna.
Well, if you cant even call
someone stupid in return, then God
help you.
My way of life includes being
able to criticise and admonish,
sometimes sternly if needed.
_
And Dear Parthasarathy,
You called me a bigot and
brain-washed.
How could you do that ??
Hinduism is a way of life. If
I say things that you consider
wrond, you are supposed to
convince me NICELY.
If you cant even do that to a
blooger you can write to on the
blog, why pontificate on my writing
about Christians, whom I cant
contact directly, and who are
daily saying the nastiest things
about Ram, Krishna and everything
Hindus hold sacred.
You are a great preacher! Practice
what you preach. Dont contradict
your preachings in your actions.
_
anad parthasarathy:
"Remember, India has never resorted to agression to quash its hostile neighbours. Yet, India keeps standing proudly. Perhaps, there is a lesson in that for all. The existence of this country doesnt depend on cheap rhetoric or violence handed out by people who have selective knowledge of the Gita and the holy texts, yet claim to be experts."
--- cheap rhetoric ? you are the
one who is delivering rhetoric
here, and it is superb!! (i am
not supposed to crticise you,
so I will only call it superb).
you sound like a 8th std kid
spouting classroom wisdom. this
is what kids are made to spout.
but the fact is that India is
slowly getting divided,
converted and terrorised in
various ways, not to mention
other problems.
you are living in some utopia
escape world. maybe you are too
used to the 4-walls of your
air-conditioned work place.
enjoy your day-dreams, while
India burns.
at least the rest of us are
trying to help in whatever way
we can.
we dont need your cheap
rhetoric. (oops, i am so sorry
your "superb" rhetoric, as I am
not allowed to criticize. Only
Parthasarathy is allowed to
criticize).
You said "Hinduism is a way of
life."
then how can you use such mean
words like "cheap rhetoric" ? but
it's ok to say these mean words to
other hindus. your objection comes
up only when a Hindu criticizes the
X-ians.
Only shows me how totally
brain-washed you are !!!!!

re:
"To "hindu" : I think the law should be brought in every state. I just do not gettit why Hindu organisations are not pressing for it- thereby continuing to be labelled "brahminical".....etc
--- crash courses for "creating"
priests are not a good idea.
would you like to recruit a
fresh crash course comp.
science graduate in an imp.
IT project ? will it not impact
it adversely ? and with many
such people, what happens to
the overall quality of the
priest community, now and in
future ?
is quality important only in
software ?
wiping out centuries old
cultures overnight is unwise.
this has just become a ploy
for people to prove they are
"not brahminical". they dont
have any insight though.
vedic priests and rituals are
sanskrit based. it takes time
to get a proper grasp of the
words, chants intonations.
mantras are useless unless
chanted properly. otherwise
what difference between vedic
chants and pop-singing ? may
as well have pop-singing
temples. why train priests ?
plus, does VHP guarantee that
the priests will not eat meat ?
if not, this is not fair to
vegetarians who would not want
a meat-eater performing the
rites for them at the temple.
I may go to a non-veg friend's
house for his/her pujas. that
does not mean it is OK for a
non-vegetarian to officiate for
all visitors at temples.
I know my post will draw a lot
of flak such as "I knew you
were a bigot". But, I dont
care. The truth is that these
people are making unwise
compromises for political
gain, not for protecting
culture, religion or treating
people with respect.
_
hey darkstorm,
nice to hear from you.
re:
"Daisies, finally I see you
talking sense."...
see, i have never been against
standing up for oneself and fighting. I have always maintained
that it is OK.
But I have been against abusive,
foul language and hatred all along.
I was the same person when started
writing in this blog, as I am now.
Nothing has changed. Perhaps you
have only got to know me better
over the months.
:-)
have a nice day...
_
and finally, parthasarathy,
i never even used the word stupid,
i just looked at my post again.
i said "totally brain-washed
minds".
this is the truth. they have been
programmed to accept that Christ
is the ONLY way to God. Christianity is based on this belief, in case you dont know.
Thus, they are brain-washed. no
thinking left to be done. Christ
is the ONLY way.
So no amount of explaining to them
can convince them.
So they feel it is OK to say nasty
things about Ram and Krishna. And
some do it deliberately to convert.
But they feel hurt by Da Vinci and
complain to the govt.
Perhaps you were not aware of all
this. There are many posts on this
blog about malicious propaganda by
X-ists. You could do a search on
Rama, Krishna and retrieve them.
