English is important in india mainly due to the service sector and the people who man it who patronize the English media. even the great chunk of those who work in the service sector only use vernacular media. but I can understand why a country like England which has little or no resources needs to engage in the service industry. but a country like india rich in resources? when the brits took manufacturing out of india they needed desis to man the service industry within india. seems the mentality has continued. but who owns the industries in india? after Britain left india, who took control of the various industries? on what basis did the government distribute them to the public?
