Nitish Kumar had broken ties with BJP ostensibly over the elevation of Narendra Modi, sensing a threat to his own vote bank. Will the wily Congress embrace him by fielding him as their candidate for PM?

Doing so would weaken Rahul's chances for succession, which Sonia probably keeps uppermost in her mind. But the Congress rank-and-file might feel differently, due to Rahul's obvious weaknesses. Will there be a tug-of-war between Sonia and the Congress realpolitikers? If so, then who's survival instincts are likely to win out?

I think the upper most priority question in Congress' mind (including all the factions, Sonia and others alike) is how to counter Narendra Modi's elevation in BJP and his impending arrival on Delhi scene, PM or no PM. That will keep them bonded together for some while - but ultimately the fissures in Congress groups will begin to appear quite apparently - making Adavani's recent mis-adventure look pale.
There is only one clear event that can prevent this more than likely end scenario - a sudden unforeseen happening that affects Narendra Modi physically. Going by its history, Congress is capable of engaguing itself into executing such a thing with external help.
