The abstracts of my two forthcoming talks are given below, for Oct 8 and 9 at Dartmouth:

Talk-1 Title: US-India relations at the cross-roads.

Abstract: While the US president verbally talks friendship towards India, his government's actions on the ground have slipped towards once again facilitating Pakistan as the future custodian of Afghanistan and Taliban. This time it will be a much more heavily armed Pakistan and potentially run by the Taliban-ISI combine. Meanwhile, China's intrusions into both sides of India  as well Nepal remain unchecked. The talk will discuss the serious implications of South Asian geopolitics for both US and India. While India would face the immediate consequences of an eventual US withdrawal, the medium term consequences for the US would be devastating as well.

Talk-2 (Gandhi Memorial Lecture) Title: Using Gandhi's lens today

Abstract: Gandhi's relevance is to be examined through his methodology and not just his policies for his era. The talk shall explain his ideas on the distinctiveness of Indian civilization, and its approach to the "other" with audacity. What would such an attitude look like today?

regards,
rajiv
