Namaskar Mitra,
Now that things are hotting up on the India China front it might be useful to read what is widely considered amongst the better books on the 1962 war. It is called Guilty Men of 1962 by D.R.Mankekar.
Have done a precis of the book and uploaded on esamskriti. http://www.esamskriti.com/essay-chapters/Indo-Chinese-war-of-1962-1.aspx.
Chapters are:

  1. Offering the other cheek.
  2. The Mapmanship phase.
  3. The nub of the problem.
  4. The die is cast.
  5. The phoney war ends.
  6. Disgrace abounding.
  7. The tragedy reaches climax.
  8. Tragedy reaches climax.
  9. The Method in madness.
  10. The Great Illusion.
  11. A Dynamic Minister.
  12. Service Chiefs nightmare.
  13. A can't do it Army headquarter.
  14. Among the Guilty.
  15. Summing Up.
  16. Chinese Strategy.
  17. Lessons for India.
  18. How does India deal with China?
This was written in 1999 and to some extent views expressed in chapters 16,17,18 could be dated.

this is one of the very good books that was written about tyhe traumatic period. it was traumatic because of the utter incompetence with which the entire situation was handled by the government, army top brass and the beuracrats. strongly recommended. amazon has a few copies.
