i find this fellow guha to be the consummate middle-brow person. imagine, someone who goes around claiming to be a 'cricket historian'! this is like being a 'bowel-movement historian'.
but then guha has figured out how to attach himself to the mammaries of the nehruvian personality-cult state and has prospered mightily therefrom. good for him. (i have a cousin living in north korea and from his description of the place, the kim-il sung and kim-il jong personality cults are no different from the nehru personality cult in india).
actually it appears from the brief email below from balaji that golwalkar was right on the money, quite prescient.

Dear Rajeev
Just wanted to point out this article by Ramchandra Guha in Hindu on Golwalkar.
http://www.hindu.com/mag/2006/11/26/stories/2006112600100300.htm
Guha quotes from Golwalkar's book that "hostile elements within the country pose a far greater menace to national security than aggressors from outside". He identifies three major "Internal Threats: I: The Muslims; II: The Christians; III: The Communists"
How true his words are till this day! And how painfully true it is that "useful idiots" like Guha and commy rags like Hindu continue to sway popular thought away from these threats!! :-( I just wanted to point out this article to you. Hopefully you can write a fitting rejoinder in your rediff column and/or blog.
Regards
Balaji
