india's northeast: another east timor in the making

june 8th

scary stuff, indeed. secession is not far off.

siachen, assam, the northeast -- soon the US state dept's maps of india which show none of kashmir or the northeast will become the self-fulfilling prophesy they are meant to be.

"Having said this, does rest of India care for NE east. I mean they were never taken as part of mainstream India."

--- Ravi Krishna, you didnt live outside South India -
perhaps that is why you feel that way. But many of
us have, and we do feel culturally connected
with NE.

Manipuri is one of India's classical dances. Nagaland comes
from "Naga" (the nagas). Historically, these people have
been there since Mahabharatha times.

And what about Darjeeling and Assam tea, many of us have
drank that for years every day. How can we not feel
connected with NE ?

We also used to do Naga dance and bamboo dance in school.

Would you say the same thing about Kashmir ?
(not part of mainstream ?). If not, why not ?

If everyone starts thinking that they have nothing to do
with some far off corner of India or the rest of India,
then this will lead to everyone wanting to secede from
the union.

Of course in the case of NE, it is happening because of
unethical and terrorist conversions. And Kashmir because
of foreign aided terrorism.

But in general, unless everyone feels culturally connected
with other states, the union will slowly breakup into
pieces.

My 99 cents...

of course nilgiri tea is good too,
that's not the point though.

i am saying, many of us have been
culturally connected with
darjeeling and assam through tea
also, a great deal.

they definitely have been part of
mainstream india.

it is not like they were some
foreign country.

Please be careful. They are not Christain conversions. They must be catholic conversions. Could anyone clarify?

catholics are christians. so it is
not incorrect to say christian
conversions. but it would be a good
idea to find out which sects do
this kind of proselytization, and
mention their names specifically.

"Not to mention the abundant flora & fauna(The greenest part of India, seen from space)."

--- Yes,yes, and Kaziranga, home of
of the beloved Great Indian One
Horned Rhino. How could we not
feel connected with the NE ?

sunnywarrior comments:
"The Christian population of
Mizoram decreased from 90.52% to 85.73% over a 40 year period and this is due to conversion?"

-- Sunnywarrior,

Out of list of 7 states, all have
registered a big increase from
1901 to 1991.

Out of list of 7, only Mizoram
shows a decrease from 1951 to 1991.

We know how to read figures. No
need to try to distract us by one
aberrant figure. And that decline
could have a totally unrelated
reason.

Are you perhaps trying to
convince us that Christists were
teaching the Mizos to go back to
their old religion ? If so, that
would be wonderful! I look forward
to that kind of news, and I hope
you are making that happen in NE.

The rest of your post is simply
diversionary feathers, which we
will all brush off as not worth
paying any attention to.

In fact, I suspect they made a typo in presenting the figures.
Who knows, I think it could very
well be:

1951 1991
Mizoram 85.73% 90.52%

I am claiming big from 1901 to 1951.

The article points to continued
increase from 1951 to 1991.

What do you mean "headhunters" ?
Cannibals ? In what way are the
invasionary, controlling,
dominating X-ians any better ?

Tribals have a way of living that
co-exists with nature. They live
with a certain harmony with nature.
with an intuitive understanding of
nature.

Their religion may not be vedic,
but whatever it is, it derives from
Nature, not from Satan, as you
Christists love to label anything
that does not go VIA JESUS.

You people think that anything that
isnt "Via Jesus" is headed straight
for "Via Satan".

(All Hindus are marching into the
arms of Satan every minute).

You X-ists think you have an
exclusive possession of God. And
that only the ones that go VIA
JESUS can have God.

And you people talk of "God's
Unconditional Love"!!!

What a Conditional lover your God
must be, if He can love someone
ONLY if he/she loves VIA JESUS!!

The Totally Conditional Love of the
God touted by Xians!!

We dont need your Conditional Love
God.

The God we believe in is nameless
and formless, and does not mind
whatever way we think of Him/Her
or It. He is totally unconditional.
All He cares is that we should be
good and be happy.

Be it in the form of e = mc2, or
Rama, or nature in her countless
forms, or Brahma, Vishnu, or
Lakshmi or Saraswathi. Be it with
or without an idol.

The tribals dont need to be saved
by you and sent to heaven. They
are ALREADY safe in God's hands
with their simple, innocent trust
in Nature.
