i had known her for about 16 years, but never met her in person.
i shall miss her for her passion, her playfulness, and her love for india.
after years of writing brilliantly, she had gone into self-imposed exile for some years, a shame.
she had been depressed for a while, and also suffered from ill-health. she had tried to kill herself a few years ago.
see her work at http://www.rediff.com/news/varsha.htm
i shall also miss her boisterous calls on the phone: "raaaaj!"
requiescat in pace, dear varsha. you have gone to the Great White Place in the Sky reserved for patriots.

I read with great anguish this tragic story of her death. Varshaji had always delighted us with her biting comments. Her fiery passion for this country always stood out in her articles. I feel like I have lost a dear family member. Varshaji, we are so sorry you had to leave like this. So sorry, we couldn't give you more love.
Its indeed sad news....Rajeev and Varsha were some of the first bloggers/writers I began following regularly many moons ago on Rediff..
May her soul rest in peace
Very sad to hear this. Not the end I imagined for a modern day Rani Lakshmibai. I enjoyed reading her fiery columns during rediff's early days, and was left quite disappointed and confused when she stopped contributing to rediff in the early 2000s. She may be gone forever now, but she will definitely not be forgotten.
