The Pope and TRP's

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/world/americas/09pope.html?ex=1336363200&en=b2997914906d4798&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
This is an article that should cause men to seriously ponder and read it many times over. Consider the following

"the pope lobbied to have a 19-day conference of Latin American bishops, which opens Sunday, held here, after seeing the results of the survey."
Jesus not rated favorite on exit polls? Is this spiritualism or targeted messaging to fight reduced market share?

"Some segments of the Latin American church have responded by emphasizing the theology of liberation, which merges faith and politics. Others have incorporated Afro-Brazilian and indigenous rites into the Mass."
This is the same "acculturation" that we are used to. Anyone remember Bede Griffith and before him that rascal Robert De Nobili? This does not surprise me at all - these people have difficulty with pluralism. They want their own brand of worship.

The unfed, unwashed masses are hungry - they want bread and "God's Rottweiler" gives them stones.

Bloody Tribal Triumphalists!!

Desicritics.org: Why Bash Hinduism?

Dear Mr Rajeev,

I wrote an article on Desicritics.org (a part of the blogcritics) based in
India. I protested against a write up written by an editor of the website.
She wrote about the interpretation of Sita's desertation by Lord Ram and
it "inspired" some whitey cartoonist based in US who drew parallels from
her story. It was an awful rendition of the scriptures and the cartoonist
seems to have taken extreme liberties with the Hindu symbolism.

The war of words that followed rallied all the Macaulayites criticising my
choice of words and getting generally verbose.

I thought that I could bring it to your notice and in general to a wider
audience.

Regards
Dr Abhishek Puri

mr. babu bhaskar's blog

may 8th, 2007

mr. bhaskar is an eminent journalist who appears often on malayalam TV. he retired from his long-term sojourn with the print media/wire services all over india. i have occasional conversations with him, although as you might imagine from the following, my views differ somewhat from his :-)

nevertheless, it is stimulating to read an intelligently-put perspective that challenges one's own.

enjoy :-)

a terrorist plot without pakistanis? amazing

may 8th, 2007

hard to believe. maybe the US authorities are selectively leaking out non-pakistani-based terrorist plots to insulate their 'valued ally in the war on terror' (TM) musharraf.

although there is the obligatory pakistani in the last sentence (thank you, nytimes, you are true to type) spouting the usual platitudes about the 'religion of peace'. i would really like to know what the definition of 'peace' is in the mohammedan lexicon. it is probably 'peace == situation where mohammedans are killing each other and all non-mohammedans have been wiped out', you know, as in pakistan. this goes with 'innocent <=> mohammedan' and other such interesting definitions in the mohammedan lexicon.

DNAIndia.com : China makes new inroads in Arunachal

may 8th, 2007

are DNA and MINT better than the usual ELM in india?

sumdurnong chu was where a chinese expeditionary force was given a bloody nose by indian troops some years ago, if i remember right.

with the increasing christist-ization of arunachal, the yanks and so on are hoping an 'indepedent christist northeast nation' will be created.

the question is, will the yankee fundies win, or will china win? who will get arunachal pradesh first, while our invertebrates in the UPA fiddle?

China makes new inroads in Arunachal
By - Rajesh Sinha

NEW DELHI: As India and China move to resolve their differences over borders, there is one aspect both countries have carefully refrained from talking about: that China has moved up to 20 km into India and grabbed a portion of the 90,000 sq km area of the Northeast that it claims as its own.

Though India has consistently denied that China has occupied its territory, the MP from West Arunachal, Kiren Rijiju of the BJP, said he has received written replies from the ministries of external affairs and defence, indicating that they were aware of the inroads made by the Chinese.

"I have their replies, admitting that there are problems and the government is trying to sort them out," Rijiju told DNA.
