An illuminating piece by the Prof on the OBC quota mess. He has made a t least two contributions here which no one has seen before-
1- the linking of falling agricultural incomes with the OBC's trying to move into the service space, and
2- the difficulty of 'converting' 12 years of bad schooling into technical excellence by quotas
This whole caste issue is essentially a collective bargaining chip - its used to maximize a power-groups share of ever-falling bounty provided by the welfare state.
Very simple solutions to all these issues
1- Revoke Article 25 and stop the state take-over of Hindu temples and their associated primary schools. Let everyone and anyone run a school without needing government permission - more players; less government
2- Implement Milton Friedman's school voucher systems to make sundry NGO's, institutions and autonomous bodies compete for state outlay in primary education - not just more players; more players trying to deliver better quality of primary education
3- Co-operatise or corporatise agriculture with heavy state subsidy if needed - economies of scale and decent incomes assures people keep on farming
Sadly - none of the three will be implemented as it means that the politicians cannot partake of the gravy train (or curry train) anymore!!!

Air India terrorist glorified in Vancouver

The Kanishka bomber was glorified at a parade in Surrey (a Vancouver suburb) as a 'martyr'. In attendance were MP's from across the political spectrum in Canada. The Khalistani's in Vancouver still harbor this fantasy of the Sikh 'homeland' and teach their third post-immigration generation that Sikhs are regularly tortured in India - like Jews in Nazi Germany
This 'Gurudwara' was visited by Canada's greatest leftist-idiot Jack Layton one week "after" the scandal. The Conservatives have expressed regret (as opposed to apologized)

India Needs Thorium Breeder Reactors

It's a mistake to think that all fission is dirty - the Thorium fuel-cycle is actually pretty safe ; even the Norwegians want to try it . More importantly, it may be commercially more viable than Solar or other renewables.
I am not sure of building clustered, autonomous reactors though. It sounds a good idea when it comes to disaster recovery, load-balancing, transmission related waste (and theft) prevention etc. However, procedures and protocols for human intervention are always a good fall back.
On another note, it would be interesting to find out which business interests are driving the N-deal in the US and why. Is is that - who has Uranium reserves have anything to do with why Thorium is being downplayed? India had tonnes and tonnes of Thorium and we need to proceed with research in this area instead of importing dirty Uranium reactors from the US.

Indonesia - particularly that wonderful place called Bali - is an extension of the great, classical Hindu world. This was first observed by Naipaul in Among the Believers - seen through the eyes of that most unforgettable man, Sitor Situmorang. However, it is over for these people. They have only hate to offer now - no matter what the ELM in India says.
A lot of people believe that the Islamist project would succeed even without the money - succeed due to the inherently malicious message of the the book (of which I am no fan). I have come to conclude that it is the money that provides the organising principle. The Arabs have used this un-earned wealth to build up cadres of fanatics whose only message is to tear down the world without having anything better to put in its place. They want everyone to become camel-lovers!!!

Virginia Gunman Hated 'Elites'
The kid who went on the shooting spree at Virginia Tech had an irrational hatred of the "spoiled rich" and their "hedonistic needs". See, this is why it's the Leftists who have historically resorted to pogroms and mass-killing, because they find it totally legitimate to demonize and de-humanize the upper class, to the point of wanting to take away their lives. People who are successful in life don't fall into such ruts of self-reinforcing hate. It's those who aren't successful in life who end up twisting reality to cater to their self-pity. In India, this kid would have simply joined CPI(M) or become a Naxalite, allowing him to go on shooting sprees all the time, while earning media praise.
