Affirmative action programs created in the name of uplifting the poor are mainly used to benefit those who are now rich and powerful. The result is a mad scramble to declare oneself 'backward':

but why are communists opposed to excepting the creamy layer?
in tamil nadu, the reservations category is dominated by BCs and OBCs. scheduled castes and tribes find little 'representation' in education or jobs.
excepting the creamy layer in the BC and OBC category will definitely benefit the populace.
but strangely the communists are against it. any idea why?
