NYTimes.com: 'Lot's Daughters'

quote:

Lot fled the annihilation of Sodom, lost his mate because she couldn't resist a backward glance and ended up in a cave with his two daughters, who conspired to get him drunk and then seduced him. ''The Lot story is shocking,'' Polhemus says, ''does describe offensive behavior, does probe shameful erotic secrets,'' which might not be so troubling were it not included in the Judeo-Christian canon. But it is; what's more, biblical genealogy traces Lot's seed through David all the way to Jesus. Ultimately, the hope of mankind, of ''a new heaven and a new earth,'' arrives through an act of incest.

poor Lot did get around, eh? wife turned into a pillar of salt, then his daughters seduced him! how interesting: jesus (peace be upon him if he ever existed) was the product of incest, of Lot impregnating his daughters!

this is surely a new way of looking at christianity, much the way wendy looks at hinduism, as one obsessed with sex. christianity does have other stories of incest. eg. abel and cain, adam and eve's sons. the only female around was eve. so how did abel and cain have children? pretty oedipal, eh? wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

as reader prasank suggested, there are indeed 'multiple perspectives' to look at christian mythology as well.

Read Genesis 4
--
16 Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. 18

From the above passage it is clear that eve was not the only female around.

25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, "God has appointed for me another child instead of Abel, for Cain slew him."

From the above verses it is clear that cain and abel was not the only children of eve.

Genesis 6
When men began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair; and they took to wife such of them as they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, "My spirit shall not abide in man for ever, for he is flesh, but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years." 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown

So please be aware that even aliens had sex with human beings.

Put some effort into reading before you put up your ignorant views.

This is so predictable: a frothing-at-the-mouth Christian maniac quoting the Bible literally! It is also very funny.

1. So you say Adam and Eve had another son named Seth. But did they have any daughters? Otherwise who were the other females around?

2. Even if they had daughters, sex between them and Cain/Abel/Seth would still be incest! Cain/Abel had sex with their mother or with their sisters. Take your pick.

3. So alien men had sex with human females. You must be a really smart guy, raving fundamentalist person. Since when do you believe in the tooth fairy too?
