I don't know enough physics to understand the following. But it appears as though Abhas Mitra really did have enough to challenge Stephen Hawking's theories. But he, it appears, was beaten down by the prevailing orthodoxy. Reminds one of Galileo's troubles, or the "eminent historian" cabal that obstructs progress.
This is what happens in India in general with the Nehruvian Stalinist mentality of personality cults. Anyone who says the Emperor has no clothes is ostracized and denied space to expound on their views.
We need to, on the other hand, question authority. This is how Indians have always made progress in the past. And the lack of questioning is what caused various societies to stagnate, eg. medieval Europe. This fascist/Semitic totalitarianism has now become part of Indian society and is being perpetuated by the Marxists in particular.
Stephen Hawking is considered 'unimpeachable' anyway because of his handicapped status and personal history. But he should not be a sacred cow. There shouldn't be any sacred cows and shibboleths.
