We have been told that terror has no religion. Repeatedly. Sun liya bhai, kitni baar bataoge.
Yet, news media, Congress party and even the government were repeating "Hindu terrorism" ad nauseam.
At the same time, we have the very same news media, Congress and the lame-duck Madmoron government not even mentioning "Islamic terrorism" for what it was in Mumbai recently. Nobody is calling the Jehadis in Mumbai "terrorists". Even "militant" seems to be used grudgingly. In fact, they even seem to be shy and apologetic of mentioning Pakistani involvement in the terror attacks. Why would anyone else in the world believe it when even our own pseudo-secular government and public does not want to admit it? Pakistan has gone all over the world media proclaiming their innocence and even blaming Hindus and Israel for the terror attacks. Pakistan has already won the war when we have our own citizens rooting for them. Now its just a matter of time when Hindus like us are destroyed. The conquest of India would be complete. They dont even have to use nuclear weapons. They can just keep sending in terrorists like in Mumbai. They can even get lot of local help from Muslims and the dhimmis in India.
Here, I am afraid to move out into the streets, while I see muslims celebrating in their ghettos, strutting around unhurt and unafraid. Recently I saw a muslim arguing with a havaldar on the streets a day after the attacks. The cop asked the muslim to take his handcart aside and stop blocking the traffic. The muslim instead started abusing the cop. I cant even imagine arguing with a cop (leave alone abusing), lest I want to be caught in a Nehruvian-Stalinist bureaucratic byzantine maze for years and pay random fines. We continue to live in fear of being killed or jailed anytime, while muslims in India indulge in jehadi terrorism freely (or provide support to Jehadis from enemy countries).
Oh, I repeat - Terror has no religion.

Kristol on Patriotism
Bill Kristol defends the concept of patriotism, which seems to have become a dirty word in the 21st century. I'm surprised a newspaper with NYT's leanings gave him space to write that.
what to do next
since everyone and his uncle is offering an opinion - here goes
I don't know why we keep crying Uncle Sam and running to America. As B Raman has noted elsewhere - this is futile. America is not interested in wiping terror aimed at india. they are looking for a facing-saving withdrawal from Afghanistan. what happened in iraq is going to be repeated here. petraeus has already started bribing the taliban to stop firing at NATO "troops" so that they can "Declare Victory and run" - to paraphrase the memorable George Aiken.
lesson -1 Do not look to others to do your Karma; specially do not look to losers
some bloggers have proposed troops to afghanistan. this is not only error but folly, principally because this will ensure quick NATO withdrawl with India left holding the bag of doggy-poop that the Afghan nation has become - not to mention the "offence" it will cause to peace-loving minorities and the Jamia University in India. We should be sending all the troops we can to the north-east. the hans are going to attack - they are softening us up using pakistan on the western border. Our strategy should be use Tajik-Uzbek-Iran trio to keep the pressure on Pakistan in the Afghan theatre.
lesson -2 Do not go climbing on someone else's Hamburger Hill.
we should recognise that both the Yanks and Chinese have an interest in keeping Pakistan going - so as to keep a watch on what each other is doing in Central Asia. Pakistan is not an international condom - it is a whore (I said it). This whore has two pimps. what is more the whore keeps playing one pimp against the other while pretending to work for both.
the core indian strategy should be to get Pakistanis fighting each other - and make sure it stays that way. We should fund the baluchis, sindhis and both sides of the Durand-line Pakhtoons to achieve their legitimate aspirations. If they do one Kashmir to us - we should do four Kashmir's to them. Instead of manning 100,000 troops on the western border - we should be paying "militants" within Pakistan to blow up critical installations (bridges, ports, army barracks). Specially they should blow up things that chinese engineers are working on - and also terror-training camps. Break up Pakistan - do it all with plausible deniability. we should also harden our defenses with the knowledge that some attacks are inevitable.
this should be a strategic objective that we should work for - even if it takes many years. even if we have to - to quote Papa Bhutto - "eat grass"
if we break up Pakistan - it opens up an energy corridor between us and the middle east. it undermines both uncle sam and the hans - to the gain of India. we should lie to uncle sam that we are prepared to be his client after this happens (a little al-taqqiyah of our own). we can even drop the demand of reconsidering the nuclear deal as a gesture
the mantra is - strengthen defense and start an offense
finally - i am simply appalled by Chidambaram being handed the home ministry. was it not enough for him to wreck the indian economy with money-for-sonia schemes like NREGS or money-for-Kingini schemes like allowing-disallowing- reallowing p-notes. the growth projections have already been lowered to be close to 7% (govt. of Manmohan statistics - you can give that a 2-3% haircut). now we can get ready to hand over parcels of india to various parties. Bangladesh gets the North east, Nepal gets it's Pasupati-Tirupatti corridor and kashmir can be given away to Zardari. all this will be done while giving the appearance of a wise Buddha and waving a "peace in our time" paper. i am afraid it may be curtains for our modern state (The First Republic of India - as Jerry Rao calls it)
so the first step should be to give this portfolio to somebody else.
sigh!

Chidambaram to replace Patil
Oh, great -( Dhimmi Patil should never have been entrusted with the Union Home ministry in the first place. Ideally, an incompetent and obnoxious jerk like him would not even be put in charge of a small town's municipal authority.
To add insult to injury, the brute presided over the enfeeblement of the nation
at a crucial point in the history of Jihad.
Chidambaram is the same fascist "economist" who implemented SHARIA banking, coerced nationalised banks to make non-recoverable loans to Mohammedans and increased the Haj subsidy.
What expertise could this knave possibly bring to bear in reinforcing national security? Except, perhaps speaking slightly better English than Shivraj Patil?

Unnikrishan's Dad Tells Kerala CM to Scram
Mr Unnikrishnan Sr, father of the slain major, firmly told the visiting Kerala CM that he did not want to meet with him. (I'm told his exact words were: "Get lost, you dirty dog!")
Was Atchutanandan expecting a Lal Salaam?
The Why, and the Way Forward
According to Paki journalist Ahmed Rashid, Al-Qaeda is the prime sponsor of these attacks, because it hopes to provoke India into a military buildup on the Pakistan border. This would in turn force Pak to deploy its troops on that border, by diverting them away from the northern areas of their country. With military pressure taken off Taliban and Al-Qaeda, this would allow them to have free run of the tribal northern areas of Pakistan.
Personally, I'm not sure that Pakistan's govt would be some innocent victim of circumstances in all of this. I feel that Islamabad/Rawalpindi are quite capable of colluding with Al-Qaeda in such an agenda, because Pak Army/ISI would rather face off against us than continue fighting fratricidally against its jihadi children. They feel their nukes would effectively deter us from crossing the border anyway. So it's a safe gamble for them, especially since they know there's another indecisive wimp named Singh in charge in New Delhi. As proof, notice how Pakistan has been very quick to warn its Western patrons that it may have to rush troops to the Indian border. We haven't even yet made the slightest move to mass our troops on the border, but Pakistan is already making a case for redeploying its forces.
I feel we have to respond to these attacks, but we'd better not just do another Operation Parakram like the last time, which turned out to be a damp squib with us having to back down yet again.
What options do we have?
We could put pressure on the Americans, telling them that if they don't put pressure on Pakistan then we will (ie. by massing our troops on the Pak border, with the aforementioned consequences for the US-led war on Taliban/AlQaeda). We can't be a party to a lop-sided War on Terror, where we're all collaborating to ensure US soil is kept safe, while our own cities are left open to the wolves.
We can ask for more US backing in further closures of the sluice gates on Baglihar Dam (The US has the dominant role in the World Bank, which is the guarantor on the water-sharing agreement.) If Pakistan wants to burn down Mumbai, then we can turn Lahore into a desert.
Another thing we could do, but only after careful consideration of the pitfalls, might be to deploy Indian troops to Northern Afghanistan, since we could free up NATO troops to go southward to fight Taliban. This would have the effect of stepping up pressure on Al-Qaeda/Taliban instead of relieving it. We would then concentrate on building more roads and infrastructure for the North, to strengthen it in the likely event of a US withdrawal/retreat from Afghanistan. This would place the non-Pashtun North in a better position, once Afghan political unity breaks down and the country returns to civil war. By supporting the Tajiks and Uzbeks in the north against the inevitable Talib-dominated south, as in the past, we would re-crystallize the ethnic tectonic blocs that would revive Pashtun nationalism. The Pashtunistan issue could put Pak back on the ropes again.
