thanks to reader vijay.
here is a broadside from one of wendy's acolytes. the blighter seems
more charmed by wendy's picture from 1959 than anything else: he
sounds like one of those 'experts' on 'south asia' who mouth inanities
ad infinitum. in a nutshell, 'these fools don't know anything about
their own tradition, we whites have to teach them. and how dare they
object to us objectifying them and expropriating from them?'
he makes a derogatory connection at the end: the New Left in the us
and the Hindu Right. however, there is more truth to this than he
realizes. the green, womens' rights, traditional knowledge-oriented
movement worldwide has a great deal in common with hindu tradition.
this has been pointed out before, for instance by david frawley.
of course the new left is not to be confused with the old left, which
is very much a neo-semitic enterprise, indistinguishable from
meso-semitic faiths such as christianity and islam.

Connections: The Scholar Who Irked the Hindu Puritans
By EDWARD ROTHSTEIN
Author Wendy Doniger's interest in exploring Hinduism from multiple
perspectives has run afoul of some of the religion's more solemn
movements.

A laughable article. I didnt know Times had such comic timing. Anyway, high time Indians started researching christainity from "multiple perpectives", publish books and teach in universities about comtemporary christainity and western culture.
quite right, prasan. this is merely a retort by a hired gun; as usual, they are closing ranks against the 'heathens'. this is the whole point in whiteness studies, where the microscope is turned around and pointed at whites themselves; they squirm quite uncomfortably when their mythologies are scrutinized. and white = christian as a first order of approximation, as christianity in effect has been an implement for white imperialism. christian mythology is full of cannibalism, violence, perverted sexuality. if studied the gutter inspector way (as wendy and her children study hinduism) there is a great deal of dirt in christianity too.
oh, and why dont you guys write letters to the editor of the ny times to let them know that this perspective is simply laughable? a large number of letters will convey the idea quite well.
