Bush does not mind, for he knows that the US objective of subjugating India will be achieved, even if specific issues, like what happens if India explodes a nuclear explosion or India takes at some point of time a foreign policy decision, which is inimical to US interests, are not explicitly mentioned in the 123 agreement, because there is the Hyde Act, which takes care of all such problems.
On the other hand, the US politicians now want the 123 agreement to be made more explicit, so that it is fully compatible with the Hyde Act. Manmohan singh must be waiting with bated breath whether they will really act like spoilsports.

A much desired support from the most unlikely source: VP Singh.

Read the story in
http://www.deccan.com/home/homedetails.asp#V.P.%20says%20nuclear%20deal%20is%20a%20shameUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08532684758671288618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813749.post-15395668335535415432007-08-06T04:52:00.000+05:302007-08-06T04:52:00.000+05:30Pact to operationalise N-deal to 'benefit' India:h...Pact to operationalise N-deal to 'benefit' India:

http://www.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=90483

This is why there is still a glimmer of hope that the American
non-proliferation Taliban
will kill the deal, since it "benefits India's weapons program" from their perspective.

I know it isn't too much to draw solace from, but it does offer a
small quantum of hope.karyakarta92https://www.blogger.com/profile/12848906033912207523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813749.post-89695740840497487502007-08-05T21:46:00.000+05:302007-08-05T21:46:00.000+05:30Sounds like a lot of legalese to me. S. has the ability to stop cooperation at anytime. What will India (or China for that matter) do? Go to the World Court?

As to the returning items, how is the U. S. going to enforce that?

No, India should simply view this treaty as an expedient means to get some nuclear technology while they continue to build their existing infrastructure.TallIndianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11804493195815876399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813749.post-66258540766878030472007-08-05T04:45:00.000+05:302007-08-05T04:45:00.000+05:30@karykarta,Sorry bud, I do not share your optimism...@karykarta,

Sorry bud, I do not share your optimism and have reasons to be pessimistic..

I am not too sure if we could claim that India did not fall to semitic invasions in the past and will not in the future..In many ways even today we are controlled by foreign powers

Not too long ago in the past, India as we know extended much larger and our soft power touched the far corners of the globe..

I do not see a similiar powerful and truly resurgent India in our life times.. We are gonna heamorage slowly but surely, since Indians have lost the instincts to defend our interests.
The sad part is we do not even know what defines "our interests" and "our way of life"..Harishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12730650762159501918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813749.post-18939096617417606442007-08-05T02:25:00.000+05:302007-08-05T02:25:00.000+05:30@Harish,>>i could not but appreciate the timlessne...@Harish,
>>i could not but appreciate the timlessness and greatness of the core values of Hinduism that have kept our country together for so many centuries <<

Which is why India cannot be enslaved by *anybody*, at least not forever.
I was very disheartened when I first read about the 123 agreement a few days ago, surrendering our sovereignty on the 60th anniversary of independence.
Yet, there is hope that this capitulation is temporary and will be reversed some day in the future, by a different government.

If 1300 years of tyranny by foreign invaders, beginning with Mohammed bin Qasim right up to the British could not succeed in completely destroying India's soul,
there is reason to have faith that it will persist, deal or no deal.

There is something very great in the soil of India and the Hindu values distilled in our blood that
nothing and nobody can ever annihilate.

This cannot be an excuse for complacency and fatalism. Opposition to this idiotic deal has to continue and one hopes the Lallus, the Mulayams & Paswans
can play at least some role in this, even if in a twisted way.
After all how can India agree to any "deal" with Amreeka? Wouldn't
the 250 million Muslim Indians be offended?karyakarta92https://www.blogger.com/profile/12848906033912207523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813749.post-60746123807717742702007-08-04T22:15:00.000+05:302007-08-04T22:15:00.000+05:30A lil off topic..The latest edition of Time is s...A lil off topic..
The latest edition of Time is singing paens to India and has the usual suspsects writing articles Wlliam Darymple, Ramachandra Guha etc etc...

While many of the articles is a rehash of what many of us here know about India's economic ascendency, military growth and pluralistic society...

I was rather touched by a couple of lines
"
With a sixth of humanity living within its borders, India is more linguistically diverse than Europe. It may end up like the Dhabol power project, which was forced through as a result of Dick Cheney's backroom visits with Sonia Gandhi, but then later repealed when a new govt came to power in Maharashtra.sanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11939342428337531046noreply@blogger.com
