Forbes: book review of Ishiguro's latest

May 27th

kazuo ishiguro is one of my favorite writers. in the space of a month some years ago, i read both his 'The Remains of the Day' and 'The Shadow Lines' by amitav ghosh, both brilliant and unforgettable first person narratives. i was moved by both.

i haven't read any of ishiguro's later works; and i have been disappointed by Ghosh's later books and also by his thoughtless and fashionable 'secularism'.

nevertheless, this book review suggests that ishiguro is back in action, doing what he does best: understatement as the world goes to hell in a handbasket.

the tyranny of science is no less a peril than that of religious fundamentalists.

Rajeev, immensely grateful to you for posting about this author and his book(s).I myself am a similar victim. When I was 19 years old got labelled as manic depressive, schizophrenic by another, schizoaffective blahblah, forced to take drugs like lithium, largactyl, haloperidol and many more.ECT too.I recall only these names.I am 46 now.I feel ever so grateful to God that He made me turn to a good Homeopath and an equally illustrious, non avaricious Siddha Doctor who bailed me out with amazing ease and speed and have completely CURED me of all the ailments engendered by those allopathic drugs. This deliverance came only in my forties.Nevertheless,I feel so free!I have been restored to myself.I never ever felt intimidated by those two doctors.(God Bless Them and their ilk)They patiently listened to ME,empathised with my predicament.Nothing was ever faked.I could go on.I wish these Healing Sciences(Ayurvdam too) are preserved for posterity too.Because a belligerent imperalistic allopaths'lobby is baring its fangs in tandem with Indian government to do away with them.Evokes memories of the well orchestrated ways the West besmirched our coconut and its oil to promote corn and soya oils and to oil the wheels of oil refining industries.Incidentally I use only pure unrefined coconut oil for my cooking. No cholesterol or triglycerides no weight problem too!!!In my house I have issued a fatwa against allopathic drugs and soya corn products too.
